Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has announced the construction of a six-lane ramp at the Srimandir in Puri, aimed at facilitating smooth and hassle-free darshan for senior citizens and differently-abled devotees. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance accessibility and inclusivity at the 12th-century shrine.
Arabinda Padhee, Chief Administrator of SJTA, recently reviewed the progress of this project in a meeting with officials from the Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation (OBCC) and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The meeting focused on ensuring the timely completion of the ramp, which is expected to significantly improve the darshan experience for all devotees.
The proposed ramp will be located at the Nata Mandap, providing easy access for devotees to view the deities. This development follows recommendations from the temple’s Management Committee and the Chhatisha Nijog, emphasizing the need for improved facilities for differently-abled and elderly visitors.
Padhee assured that the temple administration would provide all necessary support to the OBCC during the implementation phase. The OBCC, responsible for the Shree Mandira Parikrama Project (SMPP), will oversee the construction of the ramp, ensuring it aligns with the architectural integrity and heritage of the temple.
The SJTA’s initiative is part of a larger plan to enhance the overall infrastructure at the Srimandir, including the construction of a multi-level car parking facility, improved access roads, and other amenities to accommodate the growing number of pilgrims visiting the temple.
This project underscores the commitment of the SJTA and the Odisha government to make the Srimandir more accessible and welcoming to all devotees, ensuring that everyone can participate in the spiritual experience without any barriers.
