Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon is likely to advance into parts of south Odisha by June 10 due to the south-westerly wind flow from the Arabian Sea.
“The conditions are quite favourable for the arrival of monsoon. The southwest monsoon usually arrives in Odisha towards the second week of June. We expect the monsoon to reach south Odisha in the next three to four days We are expecting the monsoon in the next three days”, said Manorama Mohanty, director of IMD Bhubaneswar.
The southwest monsoon reached Kerala on June 5. It has advanced over the entire south Arabian Sea, some parts of the central Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, Kerala, parts of coastal and south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and some parts of the Bay of Bengal. It is likely to reach Odisha by June 10.
IMD has issued a yellow warning to Rayagada, Nabarangpur and Koraput districts. These districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall activity.
The arrival of monsoon will give much-needed push to agricultural activities which have taken a hit due to scanty rainfall in the state.
