India captain Shubman Gill created a buzz on social media after meeting tennis legend Roger Federer during the Wimbledon Championships 2026, with photographs of their interaction from Centre Court quickly going viral.
Gill attended the prestigious tournament from the Royal Box, where he was also seen alongside cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar and his wife Anjali Tendulkar.
Federer-Gill interaction steals the spotlight
One of the biggest highlights of Gill’s Wimbledon visit was his interaction with 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer.
Pictures of the two sporting stars in conversation spread rapidly across social media, prompting fans to speculate about what they discussed while celebrating the meeting of two global sporting personalities.
Exclusive Royal Box invitation
Gill’s appearance at Wimbledon added his name to an exclusive list of Indian cricket captains invited to the Royal Box.
He became only the fourth Indian captain to receive the honour after Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
The India skipper also joined fellow cricketers Shikhar Dhawan, Deepti Sharma and Tendulkar among the Indian players who visited the iconic All England Club during this year’s tournament.
Sachin Tendulkar welcomed back
The official Wimbledon account also acknowledged Tendulkar’s presence, sharing a photograph of the batting legend watching the action from the Royal Box.
“Cricket royalty returns to the Royal Box. Welcome back to Wimbledon, Sachin Tendulkar,” the tournament posted on X.
Gill later shared a photograph featuring himself with Sachin and Anjali Tendulkar from Centre Court, which quickly attracted widespread attention online.
Busy schedule before England ODIs
Gill is currently in England ahead of India’s three-match ODI series against the hosts, scheduled to begin on July 14.
Before arriving at Wimbledon, the Indian captain also attended the British Grand Prix at Silverstone as a VIP guest, where he explored the Formula One paddock, interacted with members of the F1 community and experienced one of motorsport’s premier events.
With appearances at two of Britain’s biggest sporting spectacles in the same week, Gill has remained in the spotlight both on and off the cricket field as India prepare for the ODI challenge against England.
