US President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Iran, claiming the United States is prepared to launch an overwhelming military response if Tehran attempts to assassinate him.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the US military has “1,000 missiles locked and loaded” and is ready to strike Iran if any attack is carried out against the sitting American president.
Trump threatens ‘devastating’ response
Trump claimed that orders had already been issued for a large-scale military operation in the event of an assassination attempt.
He said the US military was prepared to “completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran” for up to one year, with the option of extending the operation if necessary.
The remarks came after reports that speakers at the funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei allegedly called for Trump’s assassination.
Tensions remain high despite ceasefire
Trump’s comments come weeks after a June 17 ceasefire helped ease hostilities following recent military confrontations involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, relations between Washington and Tehran remain tense, with both sides continuing negotiations to prevent a broader regional conflict.
US pressures Iran over Strait of Hormuz
The latest warning also coincides with renewed US pressure on Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes.
Washington has urged Tehran to publicly guarantee the safety of commercial shipping and halt attacks on vessels passing through the strategic waterway, warning of serious consequences if it fails to do so.
Iran, however, has rejected the demand, insisting the strait falls under its authority and arguing that vessels using the route must comply with Iranian regulations.
Regional tensions continue
The dispute follows recent military escalation in the region after the United States carried out airstrikes on Iranian positions in response to alleged attacks on commercial ships. Iran later launched retaliatory strikes across parts of the Middle East, raising concerns over the possibility of a wider conflict.
While diplomatic talks remain ongoing, Trump’s latest remarks underscore the fragile security situation and continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran.
