Visakhapatnam railway station has introduced the first-ever ‘sleeping pod’ facility in the East Coast Railway (ECoR) zone, offering affordable, secure, and comfortable short-stay options for transit passengers, tourists, and solo women travellers.
Inaugurated on Thursday by Waltair Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra, the sleeping pods—akin to capsule hotels—are part of a pilot project aimed at enhancing passenger convenience, especially at busy junctions.
Located near Gate No. 3 on Platform No. 1, the facility includes:

All pods are housed within a secure hall, complete with dedicated washrooms, dressing rooms, free Wi-Fi, 24×7 hot water, snack bar, and a travel desk.
Affordable pricing makes the service attractive:

Single pod: Rs 200 for 3 hours / Rs 400 for 24 hours

Double pod: Rs 300 for 3 hours / Rs 600 for 24 hours
DRM Bohra confirmed that while the pods primarily serve railway passengers, others can also use them, subject to availability.
This initiative is part of a larger redevelopment plan for the station, which includes a 72-metre air concourse with retail zones and seamless integration with the upcoming Metro Rail, positioning Visakhapatnam as a modern, commuter-friendly hub in India’s railway network.
