The administrations in ten Odisha districts have ordered the closure of all schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centres today, citing heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions.
Districts affected include Bhadrak, Jajpur, Baragada, Kendujhar, Balangir, Sambalpur, Sundaragada, Debagada, Sonepur, and Nuapada, where classes have been suspended across government, aided, and private institutions, including Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, and Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the state over the next 24 hours. District authorities have appealed to parents and students to remain indoors and follow official advisories to ensure safety.
Officials said the precautionary shutdown aims to prevent inconvenience and safeguard children amid the ongoing downpour.
