In view of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of heavy and continuous rainfall, district administrations in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, and Kendujhar have ordered the closure of all schools and Anganwadi centres today.
The precautionary measure covers government, government‑aided, and private schools from primary to higher secondary levels, with classes fully suspended to ensure student safety.
In Mayurbhanj, the District Education Officer issued a formal order under the directions of the Collector & District Magistrate, instructing headmasters, principals, and teachers to report to schools as usual while ensuring closure information is disseminated to parents and students via WhatsApp, SMS, and phone calls.
Similar directives were issued in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendujhar, and Sambalpur, aligning with IMD’s warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall triggered by a prevailing low‑pressure system.
The closures highlight Odisha’s proactive response to weather alerts, prioritising student safety while maintaining communication channels to avoid confusion.
