Meta has restored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s video on Facebook after stating that it had been “removed in error.” The social media company confirmed that the content was reinstated after identifying the mistake.

The development comes amid reports that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) summoned Meta’s Global Head of Public Policy following the removal of the Prime Minister’s video.

Meta Says Removal Was Unintentional

In its statement, Meta said the video had been taken down inadvertently and was restored after the issue was identified.

“The content was removed in error and has now been restored,” the company said.

The clarification came after the temporary removal of the Prime Minister’s message sparked attention on social media.

Government Reportedly Summons Meta Official

According to sources, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology called Meta’s Global Head of Public Policy to explain the incident involving the removal of the Prime Minister’s Facebook video.

The meeting reportedly took place after concerns were raised over the deletion of content from the Prime Minister’s official account.

What Was in PM Modi’s Video?

The video, shared last week, addressed the ongoing concerns surrounding the NEET paper leak controversy and appealed directly to students and parents.

Addressing young people as “friends,” Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the seriousness of the issue and said the government recognised the anxiety caused by examination irregularities.

He also announced that the Centre would introduce legislation providing for:

  • Special fast-track courts for examination-related offences.
  • Stricter punishment for those involved in paper leaks.
  • Stronger legal measures to protect the integrity of public examinations.

The Prime Minister said the government had already initiated action against those responsible for examination paper leaks over the past few months.

Centre Introduced Examination Reform Bill

Following the Prime Minister’s address, the Centre introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.

The proposed legislation includes:

  • Imprisonment of up to 10 years for serious examination-related offences.
  • Higher financial penalties for offenders.
  • Establishment of Special Fast-Track Courts to ensure speedy trials.

The Bill aims to strengthen measures against paper leaks and examination malpractice.

Opposition Criticises PM’s Response

Opposition leaders criticised the Prime Minister’s address, arguing that stronger administrative action was required.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said the government’s response was inadequate and reiterated demands for accountability over the examination controversy, including action against those responsible and measures to address allegations of police excesses during student protests.
