India opened its campaign at the United World Wrestling (UWW) U23 Asian Championships in Da Nang, Vietnam, with a strong performance as Sagar Singh and Suraj advanced to the gold medal bouts in their respective Greco-Roman categories.
Sagar Singh dominated the 67kg division with tactical precision and composure, while Suraj impressed in the 60kg category with aggressive technique and control. Their victories guaranteed India at least two silver medals on the opening day of competition at the Tien Son Sport Centre.
In other results, Kumar Sachin reached the semifinals in the 77kg category but lost narrowly to Alikhan Dursonov. Wrestlers in the 72kg and 82kg divisions exited early after facing tough continental opponents.
Wrestling Federation of India President Sanjay Singh praised the athletes, saying they displayed determination and fighting spirit against high-level competition. He congratulated the finalists and encouraged the entire contingent to maintain momentum in upcoming bouts.
The UWW U23 Asian Championships India performance continues with Neeraj (55kg), Sumit (63kg), and Rohit Bura (87kg) aiming for quarterfinal berths. Their matches will determine India’s medal prospects in the remaining Greco-Roman categories.
