Rourkela Police carried out a major crackdown on illegal gambling in Luakera village under Sector 15 police limits, exposing an inter-state gambling network.
The operation, led by DSP Manoranjan Pradhan, took place early Monday morning with a large police force.
During the raid, officers seized ₹20 lakh in cash, three cars, gold ornaments worth several lakhs, and motorcycles used in the gambling operation. Police detained four individuals, including the alleged kingpin, and began questioning them to trace the wider network.
Investigators said the gambling den had been operating secretly for weeks, attracting participants from neighbouring states. The seized materials included playing boards, dice, and other items used for betting.
The sudden raid created a stir in the area as residents gathered to witness the police action. Senior officials confirmed that strict legal measures will follow against those involved.
Rourkela SP stated that similar operations will continue to curb illegal gambling and other antisocial activities in the district. Police teams are verifying financial transactions linked to the racket and identifying additional suspects.
