Days after calling off its nationwide protest over alleged examination irregularities, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has urged the Central government to fulfil the assurances it says were given before the movement was suspended.
The organisation expressed concern over reports that several protesters have been detained or arrested in different parts of the country despite an understanding that no punitive action would be taken against participants.
CJP Raises Concern Over Detentions
In a statement issued on Monday, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said the organisation agreed to end its nationwide agitation only after receiving assurances from the Government of India that no action would be taken against protesters in BJP-ruled or NDA-ruled states.
According to the statement, reports of detentions and arrests have raised concerns among the organisation and its supporters.
Appeal to Union Ministers
The CJP has appealed to Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh to ensure that the commitments made during discussions are implemented without delay.
The organisation has sought:
- Immediate release of all detained protesters.
- Withdrawal of FIRs registered against participants.
- Assurance that no coercive or retaliatory action will be taken against those involved in the protests.
- A written commitment confirming these assurances.
Withdrawal of FIRs Among Key Demands
The withdrawal of criminal cases remains one of the key demands raised by the CJP. The organisation maintains that protesters who participated in the movement should not face legal consequences after the protest was officially withdrawn following discussions with the government.
The latest statement reiterates that the assurances must be honoured uniformly across all states where participants reportedly faced police action.
The nationwide protest, led by the Cockroach Janta Party, focused on alleged examination irregularities and demands for greater transparency and accountability in the education system. After weeks of demonstrations, the organisation announced the suspension of its agitation following discussions with the Centre.
However, reports of detentions in several states have prompted the CJP to seek immediate implementation of the assurances it says were provided before the protest ended.
