Nuapada Police have dismantled an inter-state migrant labour trafficking racket, arresting five persons for alleged extortion, physical assault, illegal confinement, and human exploitation.
The enforcement action was taken following a press conference held under the directions of Nuapada SP Amritpal Singh, led by SDPO Khireshwari Sahu and Beltukuri IIC Ranjan Nayak.
According to reports, local labour agents had been luring vulnerable families with monetary advances since 2021 before transporting them to work under inhumane conditions at brick kilns in Uttar Pradesh.
The complainant alleged that when family members resisted returning to the brick kilns in Sept 2024, they were forcefully taken to Barakothi village, severely assaulted, and threatened with dire consequences over money demands.
Following a detailed investigation, officers arrested five accused on Oct 17, 2026: Nilakamal Chandrakar(38), Mulachand Sabar(35), Sanoj Lohar(34), Santosh Agrawal(42), and Anup Agrawal(47).
Cases have been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Inter-State Migrant Workmen Act, 1979. All accused were remanded to judicial custody following medical examinations, while further investigation remains ongoing.
