Olympic medallist and World Champion P. V. Sindhu has entered the global governance of badminton by assuming a full voting seat on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Council.

Her appointment follows her election as Chair of the BWF Athletes’ Commission, marking a milestone for active athletes in international sports administration.

Sindhu completed the formal vetting process and officially joined the BWF Council at the end of 2025. She made her first appearance before the global badminton community during the BWF Annual General Meeting in Horsens, Denmark, where she began her tenure within the sport’s highest decision‑making body.

As a voting member, Sindhu will contribute to strategic discussions shaping badminton’s future worldwide. Her role ensures that elite athletes’ voices and experiences influence governance, promoting inclusivity and balance in policy decisions.

Sindhu described her new responsibility as an honour and expressed gratitude to BWF President Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul for her support. She pledged to represent athletes globally and strengthen badminton’s growth through collaboration with the Council and the BWF community.

Over the past decade, Sindhu has earned recognition as one of badminton’s most successful and respected ambassadors. Her elevation to the BWF Council reflects trust in her leadership, professionalism, and deep understanding of the sport.

BWF President Leeswadtrakul praised Sindhu’s appointment, calling her an outstanding role model whose presence will keep athletes’ voices central to every decision.

Sindhu’s inclusion in the BWF Council marks a significant step toward athlete‑driven governance, reinforcing badminton’s commitment to transparency and global representation.
