A tragic incident unfolded in the Sinapali police station area of Nuapada district, where a young couple allegedly consumed poison.
The minor girl succumbed despite medical efforts, while her 22‑year‑old boyfriend remains in critical condition. According to reports, the couple had left their homes on Thursday night and later ingested poison under unclear circumstances.
Family members discovered them writhing in pain in a paddy field and rushed them to Sinapali hospital for primary treatment. They were subsequently shifted to Khariar hospital and then referred to the Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital.
While the girl could not be saved, her boyfriend continues to battle for life. Police have launched an investigation to determine the reasons behind the extreme step.
