Apple’s first-ever foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, has become the subject of a meme fest online after its starting price of Rs 2,99,900 in India left social media users stunned.
With the base model priced at nearly Rs 3 lakh, users revived the familiar “sell a kidney for an iPhone” joke, while others compared the cost of the premium device with cars, motorcycles and annual salaries.

The iPhone Duo’s price quickly became the focus of social media reactions.
Comedian Atul Khatri joked that the phone was called “Duo” because buying one would require selling both a kidney and a liver.
Another user on X quipped that even a kidney would not be enough to buy the new iPhone, reflecting the widespread reaction to Apple’s premium pricing.
Several users also pointed out that the base variant costs enough to fund a high-end motorcycle, while the more expensive configurations could rival the price of a car.

The iPhone Duo starts at Rs 2,99,900 in India, making it the most expensive iPhone Apple has launched.
The top-end 2TB variant costs Rs 4,49,900, taking the device well beyond the Rs 4 lakh mark.
The steep price has also prompted memes around salaries and savings, with users joking about how long it would take an average consumer to afford the foldable iPhone.
Apple Enters Foldable Phone Race
The iPhone Duo marks Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market, a category that has been led for years by Samsung and Chinese manufacturers such as Huawei.
Apple introduced the device at its launch event in California on Wednesday.
When unfolded, the iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch inner display and is described as the thinnest iPhone ever.
When folded, it has a 5.4-inch outer display, which Apple says provides 90% of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro while retaining a compact form factor.

Apple CEO John Ternus described the iPhone Duo as the company’s most significant iPhone design change since the original model.
He said the device demonstrates what is possible when hardware and software are engineered together, while redefining the foldable smartphone experience.
Despite the technological leap, the nearly Rs 3 lakh starting price has ensured that the iPhone Duo’s launch is being discussed as much for its cost as for its foldable design.
