Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has signed with the Maharashtra cricket team for the upcoming 2025–26 domestic season, parting ways with Mumbai after a turbulent stint marked by disciplinary setbacks and fading form.

The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) confirmed the right-handed opener’s inclusion via an official statement, following his receipt of a No Objection Certificate from the Mumbai Cricket Association. Shaw’s decision is seen as a strategic effort to reset his professional trajectory.

“At this stage of my career, I believe joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow further as a cricketer,” Shaw said in a statement. “Maharashtra has built a progressive ecosystem, and I’m thrilled to play alongside talented names like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rahul Tripathi.”

MCA officials, including President Rohit Pawar and Secretary Kamlesh Pisal, reportedly visited Shaw in Mumbai to finalise the three-year agreement. They emphasized the value Shaw brings not just as a player but as a mentor for Maharashtra’s promising talents.

“Shaw’s inclusion will significantly bolster our squad,” Pawar said. “His experience across international and IPL formats will inspire our younger players.”

The former India U-19 World Cup-winning captain had burst onto the international scene with a debut century in 2018 but has since faced a decline due to injuries, form issues, and fitness concerns. After missing out on the IPL 2025 auction and being dropped from the Ranji Trophy squad mid-season, Shaw now sees Maharashtra as a springboard to rejuvenate his cricketing journey.

With this fresh start, all eyes will be on Shaw’s performance—and whether this bold switch delivers the comeback story Indian cricket has been waiting for.
