Paris: Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) advanced to the Olympic Games quarterfinals after defeating Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad.
Throughout the first two rounds, Hofstad struggled to find her rhythm as Lovlina leveraged her height to deliver decisive punches.
Hofstad, the 2022 World Youth Champion, attempted to disrupt Lovlina’s momentum in the opening round with a series of swift punches. However, Lovlina’s strategic jabs and a solid right hook ensured she secured the essential points.
In the second round, Lovlina intensified her offense, landing powerful punches on Hofstad’s face. Hofstad aimed for a comeback in the final round, but her efforts were too little, too late.
Ultimately, the judges unanimously awarded the victory to Lovlina with a 5-0 score.
A subsequent victory would assure Lovlina of a medal, potentially her second Olympic medal following her bronze at Tokyo 2020.
