A major anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district intensified on Thursday after heavy firing and shelling broke out in the dense Dorimal forest area during the ongoing Operation Sheruwali.
Security forces have significantly strengthened the cordon around the encounter site as the joint operation entered a crucial stage aimed at neutralising suspected militants believed to be hiding in the forest terrain.
According to officials, additional reinforcements, logistical support, and surveillance teams have been deployed to prevent any escape attempts through the thick forest cover.
The operation is being conducted jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Officials said the security forces are maintaining a “strong and impenetrable cordon” around the area while carrying out intensive search and combing operations.
Operation Sheruwali has now entered its sixth day in the forest regions of Gambhir Mughlan and Dorimal in the Manjakote sector of Rajouri district.
The counter-terror mission was launched following specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of suspected terrorists hiding in the remote forest belt.
Officials said security personnel are using strategic deployment and area domination tactics to flush out militants from the difficult terrain. The dense forests and challenging landscape have made the operation highly sensitive and complex.
Heavy exchange of fire was reported from multiple locations within the forest zone as forces continued efforts to track down the hiding militants.
The entire area remains under strict surveillance, with security agencies closely monitoring movement in and around the encounter site.
Operation Sheruwali is considered one of the significant counter-terror operations currently underway in the Jammu region, reflecting continued efforts by security forces to curb militant activity and maintain stability in sensitive border districts.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of militants involved in the encounter, and the operation remains ongoing.
