Railway authorities in Bihar launched urgent rescue and restoration operations on Sunday morning after the Delhi-bound Sikkim Mahananda Express derailed near Arrah Railway Station.
The incident involved the train’s engine, SLR, and H-1 bogie, which went off the tracks approximately 200 metres from platform number two.
Officials confirmed that no casualties or passenger injuries occurred, though the derailment triggered widespread concern among staff and passengers. The train had arrived at Arrah station at 4:12 a.m. before continuing its journey towards Delhi.
Preliminary reports suggest a technical problem caused the train’s signal to shift towards the Sasaram line, leading it onto the wrong track before derailing. Railway personnel immediately reached the site, reassembled the affected coaches, and began repair work.
Operations on the route have been disrupted, with technical teams inspecting the track, signalling systems, and infrastructure to ensure safety before resuming normal services. Authorities are investigating the circumstances behind the signal error and are working “on a war footing” to restore train movement.
