Deogarh: Police claimed to have busted an online lottery fraud gang with the arrest of seven persons and recovery of Rs 1.40 lakhs.
In a press conference held here today, Deogarh SP Pramod Kumar Rath informed that the seven accused persons were arrested in connection with an online fraud of Rs 2.43 lakhs in the district.
According to information, some people from Bihar were running the gang in Jharsuguda. But the kingpin of the gang is still at large. A special team has been formed to nab the main accused, SP Rath in Bihar.
Among the arrested accused, 3 are from Jharsuguda and 4 others are from Sundargarh district, the police added that Rs1.40 lakh in cash, 18 ATM cards, 7 mobile phones, 13 bank passbooks, 10 chequebooks were seized from the accused persons.
Police said Bismay Behera (19) of Raital village was defrauded of Rs 2.43 lakhs following which he had lodged a written complaint. He alleges that the scamsters duped him after assuring him that he had won a lottery of huge amounts from KBC (Kaun Banega Crorepati).
Based on the complaint, the Deogarh police started an investigation; arrested the accused persons and forwarded them to the court.
The accused persons arrested from Jharsuguda are Lakhan Sahu (23) of Chaukipada, Pawan Kumar Prasad (20) of Talibhata, Roshan Sha (23), Uday Sahu (25) of Nabarangpur, Kishore Oram (27) of Lemlema, Bikas Oram of Lemlema and Rajeev Ranjan Gupta (29) of Nabarangpur in Sundargarh district.
However, the kingpin of the gang, who hails from Bihar’s Patna, is yet to be arrested and the police are trying to apprehend him.
