In a landmark achievement for Odisha’s healthcare and medical education sector, three of the state’s premier government medical colleges have secured impressive positions in the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) 2026 rankings.

SCB Medical College and Hospital, Kataka, has emerged as the highest-ranked institution from the state, clinching the 15th position nationally. Remarkably, this marks the first time a government medical college from Odisha has outranked AIIMS Bhubaneswar, which secured the 16th spot. VIMSAR, Burla, followed at 64th place, while MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Brahmapur, ranked 74th.

The results highlight the growing qualitative excellence in Odisha’s government medical education, research, and healthcare delivery systems.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling congratulated the doctors, faculty, students, nursing staff, health workers, administrative officers, and all employees of the ranked institutions. He described the rankings as “not just a success, but an inspiration to push Odisha’s government medical colleges to even higher national positions.”

Dr Mahaling credited the continuous efforts under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for strengthening medical education, research, modern infrastructure, and quality healthcare services across the state. He affirmed that this upward trajectory will continue.

This performance underscores Odisha’s steady progress in building a robust public healthcare and medical education ecosystem that can compete at the national level.
