The Odisha government on Tuesday carried out a targeted reshuffle of four IPS officers, appointing 2015-batch officer Dr Saravana Vivek M as the new Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Bhubaneswar.
The move fills the vacancy created after 2013-batch IPS officer Jagmohan Meena resigned from service citing personal reasons. The Centre had accepted his resignation with effect from 11 September 2026. Meena had been serving as Bhubaneswar DCP since March 2025.
According to a Home Department notification issued on 22 September, Vivek, who was serving as Superintendent of Police, Berhampur, will now take charge of the state capital’s police commissionerate. An MBBS graduate from Tamil Nadu, Vivek joined the IPS in 2015 and has previously served as SP of Rayagada and Berhampur. He also worked as a police observer for the Election Commission during the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
The other postings announced in the same order are:
- Abhinav Sonkar (2019-batch), currently SP Dhenkanal, has been posted as SP Berhampur. Sonkar has been recognised for community-focused policing and women-and-child safety initiatives in Dhenkanal.
- Mane Ajinkya Baburao (2022-batch), Additional SP Paradeep, has been appointed SP Dhenkanal.
- A.B. Silpa (2021-batch), Assistant SP at State Police Headquarters, has been posted as Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Bargarh.
The transfers have been made by order of the Governor, the notification stated. The changes are expected to take effect immediately as officers assume charge of their new assignments.
The appointment of Vivek comes after days of speculation following Meena’s formal farewell from Commissionerate Police headquarters on 19 September.
