Puri’s Shree Jagannatha Temple will observe the special Bamana Janma Niti on Wednesday (23 Sept), coinciding with Bhadraaba Shukla Dwadashi Tithi. Temple administration has asked devotees to plan around a temporary halt in public darshan.
After Madhyana Dhupa Chheka, general darshan will remain closed tentatively from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM — about six hours — so priests can complete the ritual without interruption. Darshan is expected to resume once the niti concludes.
The observance commemorates the birth of Vamana, the dwarf incarnation of Vishnu, within the unique liturgical tradition of Shree Mandira. According to temple sources, the Jaya-Vijaya dwar will be closed for the rites. Inside, priests will draw a mandala with panchavarna muruja at the inner Chandana Argali. Bandapana and Kalasa Varuna puja will follow in the three inner rooms. After Acharya Varana in the presence of Pati Mahapatra and Mudirasta, Bhoga Niti will be performed in Dakshina Ghara.
Krishna — represented as Bamana — will then be taken to the inner simhasana. After Dhandi Prasad is offered on the deity’s body, the figure will be placed on the Bhadra Mandala, covered with a khandua, and the Janma Bidhi completed. Poita Lagi and Indradhwaja puja form part of the same sequence.
The Shree Jagannatha Temple Administration issued bilingual notices so pilgrims arriving on Wednesday evening are not caught unawares. Visitors hoping for darshan should aim for the morning or early afternoon, or wait until after 11:00 PM, subject to the ritual finishing on schedule.
