A shocking incident of attempted robbery rocked Kupari Bazaar in Baleshwar district on Sunday evening when unidentified criminals opened fire on a local jeweller’s car.
The businessman, who runs a jewellery shop in the market, was heading home after closing his store when four rounds of gunfire were directed at his vehicle. Police sources indicate the assailants intended to loot gold ornaments. However, the sound of the shots quickly drew a crowd of locals to the scene.
Faced with the gathering public, the criminals abandoned one motorcycle at the spot and fled. To prevent people from intervening or capturing them, they also fired two rounds of blank shots to create panic and clear the area before making their escape.
Khaira police promptly reached the location, secured the abandoned bike, and launched a thorough investigation. Teams have been deployed across surrounding roads and the local area, including Paduna village where the jeweller resides, to track down the culprits. Inquiries are ongoing.
The incident has left residents of Kupari Bazaar and nearby areas on edge, highlighting growing concerns over safety for traders dealing in valuables. Police have assured intensified patrolling and urged the public to share any information that could help identify the attackers.
