In a monumental push for environmental sustainability, Odisha is set to plant over 75 lakh saplings in a single day on September 17, 2025, as part of the national “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0” campaign, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday.
This ambitious initiative, led by the Odisha Forest, Environment & Climate Change Department, aims to enhance the state’s green cover and bolster climate resilience.
Odisha has already made significant strides, planting 4.7 crore saplings in the last 45 days. Last year, the state planted 6.72 crore saplings, securing the fourth spot nationally. This year, under Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi’s leadership, Odisha has set a loftier goal of 7.5 crore saplings. Minister Singhkhuntia lauded the forest department’s dedication and urged continued efforts to make Odisha greener.
Additional Chief Secretary Satyabrata Sahu directed officials to complete the plantation between sunrise and sunset on September 17 and to document progress on the “Meri LiFE” portal for transparency.
The initiative has mobilised diverse groups, including forest protection committees, eco-clubs, Anganwadi and ASHA workers, and officials from departments like Panchayati Raj, Agriculture, and Women & Child Development.
This record-breaking plantation drive underscores Odisha’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community-driven climate action, setting a model for sustainable development.
