In a significant reassurance to consumers across Odisha, Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra today took stock of the state’s cooking gas and petrol-diesel supply situation, putting to rest any fears of shortages or sudden price spikes.
At a high-level meeting held at Lok Seva Bhawan, the minister engaged directly with senior officials from HPCL, IOCL, BPCL, Adani Group, and other major fuel distribution companies. The detailed review painted a picture of stability and preparedness.
Domestic cooking gas (LPG) supply is running **completely normal**. Households are receiving their booked cylinders within the scheduled timeframe, and the earlier panic over gas shortages has completely subsided. In the commercial and non-domestic sector, companies are able to meet up to **80% of demand**, ensuring hotels and restaurants face no major disruption.
Petrol and diesel stocks in the state are described as “more than sufficient,” with no anticipated shortage in the coming days. Minister Patra categorically dismissed rumours of a price increase circulating on social media as “baseless gossip” and appealed to the public to ignore them.
Highlighting the government’s crackdown on black marketing, the minister announced that over **7,000 illegal cylinders** have been seized recently — one of the biggest drives of its kind in the state. “We will not tolerate black marketing of cooking gas or petrol-diesel in any form,” he declared.
To further strengthen supply, the minister directed the companies to ramp up availability of **5 kg cylinders**, rapidly expand Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections across all urban areas, and accelerate their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives for consumer welfare.
Senior departmental officers and representatives from various oil and natural gas companies attended the meeting.
