Odisha faces intense heat during the day and Kalbaisakhi storms in the evening, prompting alerts across 21 districts.
The India Meteorological Department reported that western Odisha districts continue to experience severe heatwave conditions. Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Balangir, Kalahandi, and Nuapada recorded temperatures above 37°C. Authorities issued heatwave alerts for these regions.
Simultaneously, Kalbaisakhi storms are expected in more than half of Odisha’s districts. Yellow alerts have been issued for coastal and central districts, while Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj received orange alerts. Forecasts warned of thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds reaching 50 to 60 km per hour.
The dual threat of heatwaves and Kalbaisakhi storms has raised concerns among residents. Authorities urged people to remain cautious and avoid exposure during peak heat hours while preparing for evening storms.
