Police registered a case against suspended Inspector‑in‑Charge Sandhyarani Jena of Talchua Marine Police Station in Kendrapara district, intensifying the controversy surrounding her custodial assault incident.
Officials confirmed that the case was filed under several serious sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 74 for assault with intent to outrage a woman’s modesty, Section 115 for causing injury knowingly, Section 351 for criminal intimidation, Section 308 for extortion, and Section 296 for offensive acts in public places.
The case stems from an incident in which Jena allegedly assaulted a mother and son inside the police station. Annapurna and her son Ananta had visited the station to report a family dispute. Jena reportedly beat them brutally and removed CCTV footage to conceal the act. Ananta alleged that Jena and a home guard dragged them into a restroom and assaulted them further.
Mounting pressure led to Jena’s suspension, and now the registration of the case has deepened her troubles. Police continue to investigate the matter, while the victims demand strict action.
