A police encounter involving the prime suspect in the murder of a 17-year-old student in Ghaziabad has ignited a political debate in Uttar Pradesh, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath backing strict action against criminals while opposition parties question the legitimacy of encounter-based policing.

The controversy follows the death of a wanted suspect who was accused of killing a Class 11 student in the Khoda area of Ghaziabad. The suspect was reportedly killed during an exchange of fire with police near Vasundhara in the early hours of May 31.

How the Murder Case Unfolded

According to police officials, the victim was allegedly called to a local street by the suspect and his associates on June 28. An argument reportedly broke out over a motorcycle, which escalated into violence.

Investigators said the suspect allegedly stabbed the teenager before fleeing the scene. The injured student was rushed to a hospital in Noida but later succumbed to his injuries.

The incident triggered public outrage and protests in the area, with residents demanding swift action against those responsible.

The victim’s mother alleged that her son had been lured to the location before the attack. She appealed for justice and raised concerns about the circumstances leading to the fatal stabbing.

Police Encounter and Investigation

Police said the suspect carried a reward of ₹50,000 and was attempting to flee on a motorcycle with an accomplice when officers tried to intercept him.

According to officials, the accused allegedly opened fire on the police team during the operation. Police retaliated, resulting in fatal injuries to the suspect. His accomplice reportedly escaped and remains under investigation.

Authorities have arrested three other individuals in connection with the case, including the suspect’s father and two associates.

Yogi Adityanath Sends Strong Message

Speaking at a public event in Bijnor, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condemned acts of violence and warned against criminal behavior among young people.

Without directly naming the accused, the chief minister said such incidents were unacceptable and urged families to guide their children responsibly.

His remarks were viewed by supporters as a message of zero tolerance toward crime and lawlessness.

Opposition Questions Encounter Justice

The police action has drawn criticism from opposition leaders, who argue that justice should be delivered through legal and judicial processes.

Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai alleged that the state is witnessing a rise in violent crimes and questioned whether encounter killings can replace due process.

Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi also criticized what he described as selective action and called for equal treatment of all accused individuals regardless of religion or community.

The opposition maintains that criminal suspects should face trial in court and that law enforcement agencies must operate within constitutional boundaries.

Demolition Notice Issued

Meanwhile, the Ghaziabad district administration has initiated proceedings against the alleged house of the deceased suspect.

Officials pasted a notice outside the property, claiming it was built on government land. The family has been given time to respond before any further action is taken.

Authorities stated that the move is part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal encroachments and properties allegedly linked to criminal activities.

Political Debate Continues

The Ghaziabad encounter has once again brought the debate over police encounters into the spotlight. Supporters argue that strong action is necessary to deter crime, while critics insist that constitutional safeguards and judicial procedures must remain paramount.

As investigations continue and political reactions intensify, the case is likely to remain a significant issue in Uttar Pradesh’s political discourse in the coming weeks.
