In a significant step towards ensuring a clean and accurate electoral roll ahead of future polls, the special intensive revision of voter lists began across Odisha on Saturday.

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) fanned out across all 147 Assembly constituencies, going door-to-door to verify voter details, identify eligible new voters, and remove names of deceased or shifted individuals. The drive also aims to correct errors in existing voter cards.

On the very first day, BLOs distributed pre-printed Enumeration Forms (Annexure-III) to 2,59,166 voters, marking a strong start to the ambitious campaign.

During the house-to-house enumeration, each voter is provided with two copies of the form. One copy is collected after filling, while the second, duly signed by the BLO, is handed back as an official receipt for the voter to keep for future reference.

The Election Commission has also made the forms available for download on its official portal — voters.eci.gov.in — allowing citizens to fill them at their convenience and submit to their respective BLOs.

Political Parties Deploy Ground Forces

Recognised political parties have actively joined the exercise by appointing a total of 33,026 Booth Level Agents (BLAs). The break-up is as follows:

  • BJP: 19,380
  • BJD: 8,881
  • Congress: 4,658
  • CPI(M): 60
  • BSP: 47

This large-scale participation from political parties is expected to bring greater transparency and accountability to the revision process.

The intensive revision assumes special importance as it seeks to build a flawless voter database — removing fake, duplicate, or ineligible entries while ensuring every genuine voter finds their name in the rolls.

Officials have appealed to all citizens to fully cooperate with BLOs during the survey and treat the process as a collective responsibility towards strengthening democracy.

With this proactive drive, Odisha is setting a robust example of how technology, grassroots outreach, and political vigilance can together create a more accurate and inclusive electoral foundation.
