The Odisha Vigilance Department has unearthed more assets belonging to Muralidhar Urmal, Tahasildar‑cum‑Sub Registrar of Lathikata, raising the total cash seizure to Rs 10.74 lakh.
On Thursday, Vigilance officials intercepted Urmal near Rajabasa Chhak in Lathikata, recovering Rs 5 lakh in cash from his possession. As he failed to explain the source, the amount along with his hired office vehicle (Scorpio) was seized.
Subsequent house searches in Sundargarh and Rourkela yielded an additional Rs 5.74 lakh, along with assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The assets unearthed so far include:
- Double‑storeyed building of approx. 3,700 sq. ft. at Karmadihi, Sundaragada.
- Six high‑value plots on the outskirts of Sundaragada and Raurkela.
- Gold jewellery weighing 241 gms and silver ornaments of 635 gms.
- Bank, postal and insurance deposits worth Rs 66.10 lakh.
- One Hyundai Grand i10 Sports car and three two‑wheelers.
Officials confirmed that searches are still continuing, with further reports awaited.
