The Odisha Vigilance on Friday trapped and arrested Sujit Panigrahi, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at the Khalikote Police Station in Ganjam district, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.
According to Vigilance officials, ASI Panigrahi, who was serving as the Investigating Officer in a case registered at Khalikote PS, had allegedly demanded Rs 15,000 from the complainant to favor him in the legal proceedings. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the victim reported the matter to the anti-corruption wing of the state.
Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap on Friday, September 11, 2026. Panigrahi was caught red-handed inside the Khalikote Police Station campus while receiving Rs 15,000 cash from the complainant. Officers successfully recovered and seized the entire tainted bribe money from the accused cop’s possession.
Following the successful trap operation, simultaneous searches were launched at two locations associated with Panigrahi to investigate potential disproportionate assets (DA).
In connection with the raid, the Brahmapur Vigilance Police Station has registered a case (Case No. 09) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation against the accused officer is currently underway.
