Odisha has achieved a historic milestone in farmer registration for paddy procurement during the current Kharif season.

A record 22.28 lakh farmers have enrolled to sell their produce, surpassing last year’s figure of 19.67 lakh. This sharp rise of nearly 2.61 lakh registrations reflects growing confidence in the state’s procurement system.

Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra assured that the government will purchase paddy from every registered farmer. He emphasised that no farmer will be excluded from the process, reiterating the administration’s commitment to safeguarding farmer interests.

Despite technical glitches and natural disruptions like floods delaying registration in some areas, the government extended deadlines to ensure wider participation. Farmers registered through cooperative societies, CSCs, and designated centres across the state.

Officials noted that the surge in registration highlights trust in transparent procurement measures. The government has pledged to keep the process smooth and farmer-friendly, ensuring timely purchase and payment.

This record registration signals a positive outlook for Odisha’s agriculture sector. With procurement set to begin soon, farmers expect fair prices and support for inputs, strengthening rural livelihoods.
