Odisha Offers Rs 20K Monthly Incentive to PG-Qualified Govt Dentists

Odisha will pay an extra ₹20,000 a month to PG-qualified dental surgeons in the OMS (Dental) cadre from 29 August 2026.

Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department on Saturday notified a monthly incentive of Rs 20,000 for dental surgeons in the Odisha Medical Services (Dental) cadre who hold a post-graduate qualification from a medical college recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

The order says the incentive applies to dental surgeons working under the H&FW Department. It takes effect from the date of issue — today.

Health Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling placed the decision in a larger political and policy frame. “Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, our government is encouraging post-graduate qualified dentists in government service and taking this important step to further strengthen specialist dental care in the state’s public health system. This will certainly strengthen health services in the days ahead,” he said.

The policy is tightly drawn. It is not a general pay revision for every dental surgeon. It is an additional monthly incentive for those already in the OMS (Dental) cadre who have completed recognised post-graduation. Regular salary continues; the Rs 20,000 is over and above that pay.

For patients, the bet is simple: if specialist dentists find government hospitals more attractive, advanced oral care — beyond routine extractions and fillings — becomes easier to reach in district hospitals and medical college hospitals. For the cadre, the message is equally plain. Higher qualifications will now carry a visible monthly reward in public service.
