A 14-year-old boy in the capital city’s Laxmi Sagar area was given a second chance at life on Sunday, thanks to the swift judgment and heroic intervention of the Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police’s PCR 8 team.
The incident unfolded in Mahadev Nagar under Laxmi Sagar Police Station limits. According to police reports, the teenager was deeply distressed following a violent domestic argument between his parents. In a moment of extreme despair, the boy locked himself inside his room and attempted to end his life by hanging. However, he slipped from the noose during the attempt and collapsed unconscious onto the floor.
Upon receiving an emergency distress call, the PCR 8 mobile team rushed to the scene without delay. Sensing the urgency of the situation, PCR Incharge Havildar Hara Prasad Srichandan forced open the locked bedroom door to find the teenager unresponsive.
Without waiting for medical backup to arrive, Havildar Srichandan immediately initiated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on the unconscious teenager. His prompt medical intervention successfully revived the boy’s vital signs on the spot.
Once stabilised, the PCR crew safely transported the young boy to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing further medical treatment and observation. Medical personnel confirmed that the timely administration of CPR was pivotal in saving his life.
