In a significant move to strengthen medical education and healthcare services, the Odisha government has announced plans to establish a Medical College in Dhenkanal.

The decision comes just days after Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi declared a similar initiative for Jagatsinghpur.

Krushna Chandra Patra, the state’s Minister for Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare, confirmed the development, stating that the move fulfills a long-standing demand of the region’s residents. The announcement was made during a press conference, highlighting the need to tackle the shortage of medical professionals at the district headquarters hospital.

Immediate Plans and Future Expansion
The college will initially offer MBBS courses, with operations set to begin soon after its establishment. Additionally, the state government has allocated 20 acres for future expansion, aiming to enhance healthcare education and infrastructure in the region.

“The medical college will start with undergraduate MBBS training, and later, we plan to expand it over an additional 20 acres,” Minister Patra stated.

He further expressed gratitude towards Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling and CM Mohan Charan Majhi, emphasizing that the initiative fulfills a key election promise made by the BJP government.

Strengthening Healthcare in Odisha
The minister underscored that the operationalisation of the medical college will significantly improve healthcare services in Dhenkanal by increasing the number of trained medical professionals and addressing the doctor-patient ratio.

This initiative is part of the government’s broader commitment to enhancing medical infrastructure and training capabilities across Odisha, ensuring improved healthcare access for its citizens.
