In a significant move toward improving the welfare of government employees, Governor of Odisha, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, laid the foundation stone for 144 new residential quarters for officials and staff at the Lok Bhavan premises today.
The comprehensive housing project will feature 96 ‘E-type’ quarters spread across four blocks and 48 ‘F-type’ quarters across two blocks. Designed with modern infrastructure, the six-storied residential buildings will include stilt floors. The construction is being executed on a ‘turnkey’ basis and is targeted for completion by May 2028.
This initiative reflects the Governor’s strong emphasis on the well-being of the officers and employees working at Lok Bhavan by ensuring they have access to adequate residential facilities. The construction of these new quarters is expected to resolve long-standing housing shortages, significantly improving the living standards of the staff. Furthermore, it is anticipated that a better and more accommodating living environment will translate into enhanced administrative efficiency and a healthier work culture.
The foundation-laying ceremony was attended by several distinguished dignitaries and senior officials of Lok Bhavan. Prominent attendees included Dr. Roopa Roshan Sahoo, Commissioner-cum-Secretary to the Governor; Priyabrata Samantara, Engineer-in-Chief (Civil); Manoj Mahananda, Chief Construction Engineer of the Central (R&B) Circle, Bhubaneswar; and Superintending Engineer Arun Amitabh Pradhan.
