The Governor of Odisha, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, on Friday urged the youth to explore fisheries and animal husbandry as modern, technology-driven, and profitable sectors, and to create sustainable enterprises in these fields.

The Governor made this appeal while attending as the Chief Guest the valedictory ceremony of the State-Level Fisheries and Animal Resources Conclave Odisha–2026, organised by the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department of the Odisha Government at Janata Maidan, Bhubaneswar.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that fisheries and animal husbandry are no longer confined to traditional practices. These sectors have evolved into dynamic industries offering wide-ranging opportunities, including hatcheries, dairy units, poultry farms, food production and processing units, livestock care services, and fisheries logistics. He emphasized that by adopting skill development and innovation, young entrepreneurs can build successful ventures while making a meaningful economic and social impact.

Dr. Kambhampati highlighted that fisheries and allied activities have played a vital role for centuries in ensuring food security, supporting rural livelihoods, and strengthening the economy. Growth in these sectors, he said, is crucial for Odisha’s overall development and aligns with the vision of a Developed Odisha, while also contributing to the national goal of a Developed India.

The Governor also appreciated several farmer- and fisher-friendly initiatives of the State and Central Governments, including the Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, Mukhyamantri Matsyajibi Kalyan Yojana, Prani Sampad Samruddhi Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, and the Rashtriya Gokul Mission.

Referring to Odisha’s extensive coastline and abundant water resources, the Governor said the state holds immense potential in fisheries and animal husbandry. He noted that investments in processing units, cold storage infrastructure, and improved marketing facilities can generate significant employment and help establish Odisha as a major hub for animal and fishery products.

The Governor congratulated the farmers and stakeholders who were felicitated during the programme for their innovation and outstanding contributions. He also commended the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department for successfully organising the conclave.

On the occasion, Minister for Law, Works and Excise, Prithviraj Harichandan, and Minister for Fisheries, Animal Resources Development and MSME, Gokulananda Mallik, addressed the gathering as Guests of Honour.
