The Odisha Government has sanctioned the establishment of the 3rd and 4th battalions of the Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF), adding a total of 1,944 new posts across various ranks.

This announcement follows the creation of approximately 21,000 police sector posts over the last eight months, under the direction of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

The newly approved positions include senior command roles such as Commandants and Deputy Commandants, a range of armed inspectors, sub-inspectors, havildars, constables, as well as ministerial and communication staff. Additionally, 30 armourer staff posts have been created. The detailed breakdown includes:

  • 2 Commandants

  • 6 Deputy Commandants

  • 16 Assistant Commandants

  • 24 Armed Inspectors

  • 54 Armed Sub-Inspectors

  • 126 Armed Assistant Sub-Inspectors

  • 256 Havildars

  • 1,350 Constables

  • 14 Ministerial staff (including clerks and stenographers)

  • Communication and armourer staff posts

Recruitment for these posts will follow a transparent process in accordance with existing rules, with salaries and allowances governed by the Odisha Revised Service Pay (ORSP) Rules, 2017. The expenditures, including salaries, retirement benefits, and establishment costs, will be charged to borrowing organizations to avoid financial strain on the state exchequer.

These new battalions build on the previous approval of the 2nd OISF battalion in April 2025, which added 972 posts for state government use. Support services such as cooks, sweepers, and barbers will be outsourced, employing around 136 individuals across both battalions.

The notification was issued by Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Shri Satyabrata Sahu, on July 22, 2025, following the Chief Minister’s directive. This move is expected to strengthen industrial security and policing capacity within the state.
