US authorities have arrested 19-year-old Alexandros Paporakis of Palatine following an investigation into an alleged mass shooting plot targeting a Hindu place of worship in the Aurora area.
Paporakis, a fast-food cashier, faces felony charges of making a terrorist threat and unlawful possession of a weapon.
The investigation began after co-workers alerted law enforcement upon receiving concerning digital communications. Officers recovered an eight-page document titled “Why I Fought: A.K.A. (Aurora Shooter’s Manifesto)” containing explicit white supremacist rhetoric and plans detailing violence against minority communities.
Prosecutors stated Paporakis told a colleague his firearm had jammed during a planned attempt, forcing him to flee.
During a search of the suspect’s residence, detectives seized an AR-style rifle without a serial number, multiple loaded magazines, ammunition, tactical gear, and items bearing Nazi symbols.
Palatine Police Chief William Nord emphasised that protecting places of worship remains a priority for law enforcement.
A Cook County judge ordered Paporakis held in custody pending trial, with his next court hearing scheduled for October 30. Local police and the FBI continue to coordinate outreach to regional temples.
