In a remarkable story of determination and resilience, a student from Malkangiri district has demonstrated that physical challenges cannot limit human potential.
Laxmi Khimundu, a Class 10 student, successfully cleared the matriculation examination by writing with her feet, as she has limited use of both hands since birth.
Her achievement has inspired educators, students, and the wider community across the state.
Determination Beyond Limitations
A student of PM Shri Government High School in Sindhrimal, Laxmi appeared for the 2026 High School Certificate examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha. She passed the exam with a D grade, marking a significant personal milestone.
Despite being offered a writer (scribe) facility during the examination, Laxmi chose to write the papers independently using her feet. Her decision reflected strong self-belief and a commitment to overcoming barriers through her own effort.
Consistent Practice Led to Success
Laxmi developed the skill of writing with her feet through years of consistent practice. Instead of viewing her disability as a limitation, she adapted to it and built the ability to perform academic tasks independently.
Her journey highlights the importance of accessible education and the role of perseverance in achieving academic goals.
Officials Praise the Achievement
District Education Officer Chittaranjan Panigrahi commended Laxmi’s accomplishment, calling it a proud moment for the entire education system.
He noted that her success sends a strong message that physical disabilities do not define a student’s potential or ability to succeed. Her dedication and determination serve as a valuable lesson for all learners.
Community Celebrates Her Achievement
Following the announcement of the results, Laxmi’s success has brought widespread joy across her locality. Her story is being seen as a powerful example of courage, resilience, and inclusive education in action.
