The flood situation in Odisha remained critical on Friday as multiple embankment breaches and rising river levels inundated villages across several districts.

In Jajpur district, seven breaches were reported in three rivers following heavy inflows. The Brahmani River developed four breaches, while two breaches occurred on the Kani, a distributary of the Baitarani. Another breach was reported on the Nua Mahara, a distributary of the Kharasrota. Flooding has impacted around 250 villages, affecting more than one lakh people. Authorities have evacuated over 10,000 residents to safer locations.

In Bhadrak district, the Salandi River surged to 18.50 feet at Rajghat, well above the danger mark of 17.00 feet, flooding Bhadrak, Chandbali, Tihidi, and Dhamnagar blocks. Rising waters in the Kansabansa and Gamei rivers also inundated seven panchayats in Basudevpur block.

Meanwhile, in Puri district, both the Devi and Bhargavi rivers flowed above danger levels. At Balanga, the Bhargavi was recorded at 11.25 feet against the danger mark of 10.42 feet, while the Devi at Bauriakana reached 5.08 feet, exceeding its danger level of 4.95 feet.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with relief and evacuation measures underway to minimise damage and safeguard lives.
