The Odisha government and administration finalised extensive arrangements for the Rath Yatra 2026 in Puri during the second coordination meeting, chaired by Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan.
Officials confirmed deployment of 220 platoons of police, installation of 475 CCTV cameras, and creation of 28 emergency exit points to ensure safety.
Security forces, including NSG and tactical units, will oversee crowd management. The Shrimandir Chief Administrator, Dr Arabinda Padhee, reported that chariot construction is in its final stage, with special committees supervising the process. Authorities emphasised the smooth conduct of Rath Tana and Pahandi rituals.
Health services have been strengthened with 200 additional beds, 30 emergency health centres, and 230 doctors, including specialists. Rapid response teams will be stationed at sensitive locations. Sanitation drives have been completed, with major drains cleaned and high‑capacity pumps arranged for rainwater disposal. The Puri Municipal Corporation confirmed the installation of 1,600 temporary toilets and 23 parking zones.
Transport arrangements include 370 special trains, 130 buses, and a total of 1,200 trains combining regular and special services. Railways will set up holding areas for 25,000 passengers, 35 ticket counters, and 12 ATVMs, supported by 800 RPF and 1,500 GRP personnel.
Officials clarified that the much‑awaited Siddha Mahavir railway overbridge will not be operational before the festival. The meeting witnessed participation of senior ministers, MPs, MLAs, police, and district officials, reflecting the scale of coordination for the grand event.
