Odisha will host the national launch of the Letter of Authorization (LoA) for sustainable utilization of deep-sea fishery resources on July 9, 2026, at the Agriculture Education Hall of OUAT, Bhubaneswar.
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan will attend as chief guest, alongside the Governor, Chief Minister, Union Ministers, state representatives, national fisheries officials, and over 1,000 participants including fishers, students, and stakeholders.
A high-level preparation meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Anu Garg reviewed arrangements at Lok Seva Bhawan. Departments were directed to ensure protocol, security, traffic management, sanitation, uninterrupted power supply, medical aid, and media outreach. The Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department was tasked with coordinating guest facilities, fisher participation, and logistics.
The LoA will authorise Indian-flagged fishing vessels to responsibly harvest deep-sea resources in line with national and international regulations. Officials emphasised that the initiative will boost fisher incomes while safeguarding marine ecosystems.
The project aligns with Odisha’s focus on the blue economy, supporting sustainable growth in fisheries, coastal industries, and marine-based livelihoods. The Chief Secretary stated that the event will highlight Odisha’s leadership in sustainable fisheries development and reinforce national commitment to responsible deep-sea fishing.
Preparations include VIP security by the Home Department and Police Commissionerate, beautification and sanitation drives by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, and transport and accommodation arrangements by the Tourism Department. OUAT will provide the stage, audio-visual facilities, digital backup, and student volunteers.
