Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced a 40% increase in financial assistance for lawyers under the state welfare scheme.
The decision benefits thousands of lawyers working across courts in the state, ensuring greater support for families in cases of retirement or death.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the revised assistance will strengthen the welfare framework for the legal fraternity. The last revision took place in 2021, and this latest increase addresses long-standing demands from lawyers’ associations.
Under the new provision, families of lawyers with less than five years of service will receive ₹1,05,000 in case of death. The amount rises with each additional year of service. Lawyers completing 30 years of practice will receive ₹6,30,000 upon retirement, or their families will receive the same amount in case of death. This marks the maximum assistance under the scheme.
Officials confirmed that the enhanced support will be disbursed through the State Welfare Fund for Lawyers. The measure aims to provide financial security and recognition for the contribution of lawyers to the justice system.
