The FIFA World Cup 2026 delivered another day packed with drama, records, and memorable performances as teams completed the second round of group-stage fixtures across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

From Spain’s dominant victory over Saudi Arabia to Egypt’s historic breakthrough and Cape Verde’s remarkable rise on the global stage, Matchday 11 provided several headline-making moments that added fresh excitement to the tournament.

Lamine Yamal Becomes Youngest World Cup Scorer Since Pele

Spain bounced back strongly from a disappointing opening draw by defeating Saudi Arabia 4-0 in a commanding Group H performance.

The star of the evening was 18-year-old Lamine Yamal, who scored the opening goal and became the youngest player to score at a FIFA World Cup since Brazilian legend Pele achieved the feat in 1958.

Yamal’s return injected energy and creativity into the Spanish attack, helping the European champions rediscover the form that made them one of the tournament favourites.

Mikel Oyarzabal added a quick-fire brace before an own goal completed the rout, lifting Spain to four points and firmly back into contention for a place in the knockout stages.

Egypt Scripts Historic First World Cup Victory

Another historic milestone came as Egypt secured its first-ever FIFA World Cup win.

After falling behind against New Zealand, the Pharaohs produced an impressive second-half comeback to claim a 3-1 victory.

The result ended years of frustration for Egyptian football fans and marked a landmark achievement for a nation that has long been one of Africa’s football powerhouses but had struggled to translate continental success onto the World Cup stage.

The victory has significantly boosted Egypt’s chances of advancing from the group phase.

Cape Verde’s Dream World Cup Journey Continues

Cape Verde continued to capture the imagination of football fans worldwide with another resilient performance.

The African nation earned a 2-2 draw against Uruguay, collecting another valuable point in what has become one of the most inspiring stories of the tournament.

Beyond the result, the match was historic because it produced Cape Verde’s first-ever FIFA World Cup goals.

After holding Spain to a draw earlier in the competition, Cape Verde once again demonstrated discipline, determination, and belief against one of South America’s traditional football giants.

Their remarkable debut campaign is quickly becoming one of the standout narratives of FIFA World Cup 2026.

Belgium Held Again as Qualification Race Intensifies

Elsewhere, Belgium’s struggles continued as they were held to a goalless draw by Iran.

The result leaves Belgium without a victory after two matches and increases pressure on the European side heading into the final round of group-stage fixtures.

Iran, meanwhile, earned another valuable point through a disciplined defensive display and remains firmly in contention for qualification.

World Cup 2026 Producing Historic Moments

As the tournament moves closer to the knockout stages, FIFA World Cup 2026 continues to produce unforgettable moments and new records.

From Lamine Yamal’s historic achievement and Egypt’s long-awaited breakthrough to Cape Verde’s inspiring debut campaign, the competition is showcasing both football’s established powers and emerging nations on the biggest stage.

With several groups still finely balanced, fans can expect even more drama, surprises, and history-making performances in the coming days.
