Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi held a courtesy meeting with Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday, joined by Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.
Official sources said the leaders discussed various administrative and development-related issues concerning the state. After the meeting, the Chief Minister stated that the Governor’s guidance continues to inspire the government in implementing welfare programmes effectively and advancing Odisha’s development agenda.
Sources indicated that the long-pending appointment of Vice Chancellors in state public universities may have figured in the discussion. The selection process for VCs in 13 universities has remained incomplete for over nine months, despite applications being invited in June 2025 following amendments to university laws in line with UGC norms.
The delay has drawn criticism from opposition leaders and academicians, as several universities continue to function under acting Vice Chancellors. Observers note that the absence of permanent leadership has affected administration and slowed academic decision-making.
