Odisha continued to shiver as night temperatures dropped sharply in the last 24 hours, with 13 locations recording minimum temperatures below 10°C.
G. Udayagiri in Kandhamal district registered the state’s lowest temperature at 4.8°C, falling below the 5°C mark for the first time this season.
Other places that recorded temperatures below 10°C include Rourkela, Phulbani, Daringbadi, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Chiplima, Angul, Boudh, Bhawanipatna and Koraput.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, no major change in weather is expected in the immediate future, but night temperatures are likely to drop further by 2-3°C in many parts. From Wednesday, the intensity of cold is set to increase, prompting the IMD to issue a yellow warning for cold wave conditions in nine districts.
The cold spell is expected to persist over the next 4-5 days with no significant change in overall weather conditions. A cold wave warning remains in effect for the next three days, Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre, said.
