India’s Kamaljeet and Suruchi Singh produced a superb performance to win the gold medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Asian Games on Friday, September 25.
The Indian pair finished on 484.6 points in the final to secure the top spot, finishing a commanding 6.6 points ahead of South Korea’s Suhyeon Hong and Gaeun Choo, who took silver with 478.0.
Iran won the bronze medal with 415.8 points.
Kamaljeet and Suruchi dominate final
The Indian duo made a strong start to the final and led the standings after their opening 10 shots.
Suruchi began with a score of 10.4, while Kamaljeet registered 9.7. Suruchi then followed up with 10.2, while Kamaljeet scored 9.8 with their second attempts.
The pair accumulated 202.4 points after 10 shots, keeping them at the top of the standings.
They maintained their advantage with another strong series, eventually finishing with 484.6 to claim the Asian Games title.
India tops qualification
Kamaljeet and Suruchi had earlier stormed into the final after finishing first in qualification.
The Indian pair scored 196 in the opening series before adding 195 in the second to reach 391. They then produced another 196 in the third series to finish qualification with 587 points, including 29 inner 10s.
Their consistent performance secured their place in the medal round.
Strong comeback after individual disappointment
The gold medal marked an impressive turnaround for both Indian shooters.
Kamaljeet finished ninth in the individual qualification, while Suruchi placed 26th, with neither shooter managing to reach the individual final.
India had also missed out on medals in the men’s and women’s team events.
The mixed team event, however, provided the duo with an opportunity to bounce back — and they capitalised on it with a dominant display to add another gold medal to India’s Asian Games campaign.
