The Odisha Assembly witnessed chaos today as Congress legislators disrupted proceedings during the Special Session convened under Article 174(1) of the Constitution.
From the beginning, Congress members raised slogans near the Speaker’s podium and attempted to corner the government over the Kendujhar issue. The uproar forced repeated interventions as the opposition pressed its demands.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi introduced a proposal to discuss women’s participation in democracy. The one-day Special Session was called exclusively to deliberate on the role of women in Indian democracy. The Assembly Secretariat had issued a notification earlier, outlining the agenda.
Security arrangements around the Assembly were tightened with 30 platoons of force deployed. A three-tier security ring was placed, and Section 163 of the BNSS was enforced in Lower PMG to prevent untoward incidents.
Ahead of the session, the BJP legislative party held a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister in Room No. 54 of the Assembly. Members discussed the strategy for the Special Session and emphasised the importance of highlighting women’s contributions to democratic processes.
